Our programs focus on engaging student readers, writing strategies, and developing creativity in learners of all ages. 

Student Workshops

Author in the Classroom: Our small group (classroom) presentation that focuses on engaging student readers, writing strategies for students, and includes a fun presentation on becoming an author. Using a very personalized approach to creating fictional stories, our facilitator helps to make student writing more genuine and authentic, contextualizing their own life experiences to create a world of fantasy. The workshop offers the opportunity to share with teachers sample, authentic evaluation & assessment, and a process of engaging with the students in their writing sessions in a much more meaningful way. 

 

Author in the School: This large group presentation that focuses on the importance of reading, becoming an author, and influences in students’ lives that could influence their writing. The large-group presentation focuses on the themes of Read to Get Smart! and Write What You Know. The presentation is lively, engaging, entertaining and instructive. A Q&A period ends the presentation.

 

Creating a Literature Rich Home Environment: Parents supporting schools in creating stronger readers and writers. In this presentation, parents will learn new and creative ways of engaging their own children in reading and writing activities at home. It will provide them with ideas on how to enrich the home environment to encourage and enhance reading and writing in many different forms for varying purposes. 

Professional Development

Teachers’ Writing Workshop: Engaging the Student Reader & Writer. This workshop offers insights into Process Writing and offers methods of evaluating and assessing student work and progress. The session can be in presentation form, half-day or full day workshop. Teachers will come out of the session inspired to consider new approaches to engaging kids in reading and writing, and they will be provided with resources encouraging them to this end.

In this presentation, parents will learn new and creative ways of engaging their own children in reading and writing activities at home. Right Brain/Left Brain: Connecting Imagination to Fingertips: this presentation is an inspirational and motivational talk on how it is that teachers/parents need to understand the relationship between imagination and reality in terms of putting words to ideas. The presentation will offer insights and strategies to enhance adult influence and methodology in encouraging and exercising children’s creativity. It will include discussions around dramatic activity, choral reading, and the art of storytelling. 

 

Uses of Enchantment: Bruno Bettleheim’s Influence in Creative Writing: This presentation will combine the intellectual conversation about Bettleheim’s influence and expressions of imagination and enchantment in writing. It will be premised on how it is that children can grow from the stories that are told to them, and how they personally contextualize those stories in their own lives. Using illustrated children’s stories, this presentation focuses on the fundamental understanding of imagination and growth in a child, and is touches on the themes of “reading for personal growth” and “writing what one knows”.
